Fred Again delivers a unique afterglow at new live shows - The comeback of the Warmdown

Electronic prodigy, Fred Gibson, better known by his moniker, Fred Again has been a pillar of the electronic scene since he began in 2014, but something truly special has spawned from his live shows: the resurgence of the warm down.

When lights go on, the plastic cups and lost phones are revealed on the grubby floor of a nightclub. When you see how sweaty your friends are and you feel a drag back to reality. After 6 hour shows, the emotion of the music can evaporate quickly.

But recent shows from Fred Again have incorporated a way to not only maintain the emotion, but deliver a whole new kind of experience.

The music stays on, even after the final act has left the building. Fred leaves some of the more laid back and atmospheric tracks from his albums, namely Glow from his album Ten Days, playing on the decks.

This has captured some truly emotive moments, giving audiences time to cool off, to take in emotions, and reconnect with the people around them. Images across the USB002 tour show listeners laying on the floor, embracing and grounding themselves.

Industry professionals praise the concept as “the comeback of the warmdown”, a small section where audiences slowly wean themselves off the rush and overwhelming nature of a crowded and loud gig.

Gig Lighting Designer, Harley Knight calls the concept “the new go-to”:

“I’ve been an avid believer that ending the show with the crowd in an ultra-hyped headspace does nothing but leave them with intense energy they now have no immediate outlet for and can incite violence.

“The idea of a warmdown plays a more important role than the warm up, people need a moment to absorb and process what they just experienced.”

Other audience members think the warmdown needs to return, calling the return of the concept “game-changing”.

Upon recalling our own personal club experiences, some of the worst endings to shows come from simply being swept out by security all at once. This also leads to crowded streets outside the venue, often filled with intoxicated concert-goers, who might have had something harder than beers that night.

Overall, the response to the movement has been positive, with some calling the experience almost religious. The floaty atmosphere, the exhaustion but the satisfaction most of all, is yet another reason why Fred Again remains a supreme live show.
